Meeting of July 10, 2008

 

 

 

In Attendance: Fred Benjamin, Gary Bluestein, Mike Ginsberg, Neil Grossman, Steve Lesco,  Rick Schantz.   Staff Present:  Brett MacGowan,  . 

           

Meeting was called to order by Mike Ginsberg @ 7PM.

 

            A motion  was made by Gary Bluestein to accept the minutes of June 12th.  Motion seconded by Steve Lesco..  Minutes approved unanimously.

 

            Agenda

 

Community Center Renovation Update –  Steve Lesco

Brett MacGowan passed out a “punch list” of things  that needed to be taken care of in Community Center. Steve will take care of  with the appropriate people.

 

Lakeview Street Property Reuse Committee Report – Gary Bluestein

Chabbad camp started this week.  They will be there for the next 7 weeks.

All septic work is complete.

Plumbing has been completed in the buildings that are currently being utilized.  Handicap bathrooms all installed.  New windows have been installed where needed.

 

Director’s Report – Brett MacGowan

                   Recreation Department Policy Changes

·         Scholarship—changed to include income verification before awarding scholarship. Also, using  HUD sliding scale for scholarship awards.

·         Refund—changed from 7 days to 14 days prior to program start for 100% refund. 7-13 days prior is 50% refund and under 7 days notice is no refund.

 

                      Lake Massapoag

·         Beach House Issues—showed pictures of work that still needs to be done. Funds should      be available. Waiting on Scott Dunn to either deliver the screen door or deduct it from the bill before signing off on the bill. Building got tagged by graffiti. In future, will use camera to document graffiti and damage.

·         Beach Issues—more snow fence needed for the fireworks. Fence has to extend into the lake, have had complaints about lazy staff (have been addressed), working with Star Camp to run more efficiently, met with Richard Kramer (Ben, Eric and Joe R also there) to discuss his complaints with the beach

·        Water Report—closed Salvation Army beach due to high e-coli counts. CC Beach tests fine. In contact with Board of Health daily.

·         Lake Treatments controlling fanwart from spreading. The second of three treatments was         unannounced and caused panic from Camp Gannett. Asked to be notified from no on before lake treated.

·         Bandstand--- issues include replacing the floor as wood is old and worn. Is it possible to ask for capital finds next year?

·         Flowers—planted flowers at Memorial Beach. Will ask Garden Club to help with that next year .

 

       Special Events

·         Concert Series—1st one over. Went fine.

·         July 3—over. Will tell July 4 committee what/how Recreation will do next year.

·         Looking ahead---changes, July 3, 2008—will have extra snow fence, more employees on.

 

      Upcoming Events

·         Movie Night   August 14—

·         Karaoke Night  July 17

·         Halloween Parade---will talk to Dennis and Joe about possible rote change

·         Family Week—will speak with Eric, Dennis and Joe about participating. Already had contact with Methane about performing.

 

                       Personnel update

Started  search for Assistant Recreation Director.  Posted position on MRPA/Sharon Advocate/Hot Jobs.   Have  received 7 resumes.  Will start the interview process next week.
